The world-famous Grace Bay Beach is located on the northeast coast of the island of Providenciales. This pristine beach is the hallmark of the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the recipient of many designations, awards, and accolades.
Grace Bay has won numerous awards, including the World Travel Awards’ World’s Leading Beach Destination and the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards’ World’s Best Beach. Grace Bay has taken first or second place in these two competitions around a dozen times.
Rugged and remote are the defining features of the beautiful beaches of Middle Caicos. Home to the tallest ocean cliffs in the country, much of this island’s northern coastline is located quite close to the deep water off the edge of the Caicos Islands’ underwater plateau. As is also the case with adjacent North Caicos, almost the majority of the west, south and east sides of Middle Caicos are mangrove wetlands and shallows, which edge the shallow Caicos Banks. Because of this, all of the island’s beaches are found on the 17-mile north and northeast coast. In addition to the rugged and majestic north coasts, Middle Caicos also hides several amazing channel beaches, where clear water flows between uninhabited cays, creating picturesque shallows, sandbars, and lagoons.
The incredibly turquoise Chalk Sound National Park offers some of the most vibrant water you’ll see anywhere. This sheltered lagoon is home to hundreds of tiny islands, a vast blue hole underwater cave, a submerged plane wreck, and even the Turks and Caicos rock iguana. Two beautiful beaches are also located nearby: Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay.
Little Water Cay is a small uninhabited nature reserve and island that’s located near Leeward on Providenciales. It is the best place in the country to see the docile and unique Turks and Caicos Islands rock iguana. These large lizards are endangered due to their very limited range, so visiting Little Water Cay gives your kids the rare chance to see a threatened species in its native environment.
Many boat cruises to the Caicos Cays and kayaking, paddleboarding, and eco-tours stop at Little Water Cay, so if you’re already planning on doing one of these activities, it’s probably not necessary to make a separate trip to the island.
The Turks and Caicos supports an amazing network of mangrove wetlands and tidal channels. These pristine waterways act as the nurseries for many types of sea life. A guided excursion by kayak or paddleboard into these shallow wetlands will allow you to spot wildlife up close in their natural environment. On a good day, you can see juvenile sharks and turtles, conch, barracuda, bonefish, starfish, stingrays, and birdlife. A great way to explore the wetlands without missing a thing is by clear kayak. These kayaks have a clear bottom that allows you to see straight through the hull and down into the shallows.
